Pune vaccine to combat Sub African disease

Could anyone imagined, vaccine developed in Pune would help to fight life threatening diseases in South Africa ? It is true.

Serum Institute (SII) in Pune has developed a vaccine “MenAfriVac”, which is going to help children and adults in South Africa. This vaccine is licensed by durg controller in India as well as qualified by WHO.


From long time huge mass of population is suffering from this continental disease ‘meningitis’. About 25 countries from Ethiopia to Senegal are drowned by this infamous disease. Geographical region is called by meningitis belt. Now, this vaccine will be introduced into that country, and it will help them.


Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger are the few countries where this vaccine will be introduced in first time. Mass communication and awareness of this medicine is required. Out of 450 million population, currently 300 million population would be targeted with this vaccine. It will help to reduce  the transmission of disease in broader way.
